Psst – don’t tell anyone: many stitch markers just bother me in my hand. They are too stiff and don’t feel good while knitting.

That’s why I almost exclusively use my very simple, homemade markers for round markings when knitting – DIY, affordable, and beautiful.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make your perfect stitch markers super quickly and easily yourself.

Below you will find a nice PDF that you can print out and keep in your project bag – so you can always make new markers. Because a knitter can never have enough stitch markers!

Things to keep in mind:

  • Use sturdy yarn if possible (I used waxed yarn).

  • Try to pull the knots as tight as possible so that none come undone.

  • These markers are suitable for marking between two stitches. They are simply slipped off in each round. If you want to mark a spot in the piece, resealable markers are better.

"My tip: design your stitch markers exactly how you like them. For example, you can make a marker with a larger bead or in a different color."

You will need these materials:

Accessories:

1 pair of scissors

Materials:

Yarn (thin but sturdy, e.g., waxed, length per stitch marker about 25 cm)

Wooden beads (untreated here, but you can also use colorful ones, preferably two sizes, about 8 mm to 20 mm)

Instructions for your Perfect Stitch Markers

Step 1:

Cut a piece of yarn about 25 cm long.

Step 2:

Make a loop and tie a knot. Make sure the loop is big enough to slip over your desired needle.

Step 3:

Thread the larger of your beads onto both thread ends.

Step 4:

Thread the smaller of your beads onto only one of the two threads.

Step 5:

Tie the threads behind the second bead and cut off the excess ends.

Special features and advantages of your Perfect Stitch Markers

Your Perfect Stitch Markers are super comfortable to hold.

If you knit many pieces in the round, you need to mark several spots and constantly have the markers in the current round. So they are in your hand all the time.

Finished markers are often too stiff and hard here. They just don’t feel good.

Your Perfect Stitch Markers are super easy and quick to make. They fit perfectly in your hand and feel simply good thanks to the natural materials.

Design your markers however you like! For example, you can use a colored bead for the main marker or a slightly larger one.

Your Perfect Markers are affordable, save resources, feel beautiful in your hand, you can make as many as you need, and you will keep adding to them.

Conclusion

The Perfect Markers are a real must-have.

Print out the PDF to always have your instructions on hand and to be able to make new markers anytime.

They fit perfectly in your hand, feel great, and will make you happy: your Perfect Stitch Markers.

These stitch markers also make a lovely little gift for a dear knitting friend!
