You probably know this too: a small yarn scrap remains from your project and you don’t know what to do with it.

I have the perfect solution for you here: the Remember Me Shawl!

This beautiful and cozy shawl not only looks fantastic, it is also made to use up all your small and even tiny yarn scraps. At the same time, you have a charming memory of all your projects because they are united in this shawl.

Further down you can download the instructions for this shawl for free as a PDF and then you can get started!

The preparations:

  • Choose thin yarn scraps and combine them as you like. Everything is allowed!

  • As a base color, I chose two skeins of Merino from Knitting for Olive.

  • Knit a gauge swatch with your yarns; if you want to use thicker yarns, just adjust the needle size.

"My tip: pick out your most beautiful thin yarn scraps. The colors reflect your projects, dare to combine them!"

The right yarn choice

Yarn stash yarn scraps from projects

The choice of the right yarn is completely free. Combine small scraps of different colors and marvel at a great result.

Make sure the yarn weights roughly match. You should adjust the needle size for yarns that are too thick.

This way you can remember all your projects and bring them together. You will notice that you have a preference for certain colors and they appear especially often.

Have fun with the colors and memories!

Remember Me Shawl - Instructions

Start of the Remember Me Shawl

You start with three threads and needles size 3.5 mm. One thread of Merino from Knitting for Olive and two threads of leftover yarn.

You knit an I-Cord edge of 3 stitches, meaning the first three stitches of a row are always knit, the last three stitches of each row are always slipped with the yarn in front.

The basic pattern is:

Right side row: alternate 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch (increases are sensibly added)

Wrong side row: knit all stitches

You increase every 8th row (= wrong side row), here you knit 3 sts knit (= I-Cord), increase 1 stitch from the cross thread, knit right until three stitches before the end of the row, slip these with the yarn in front.

The pattern is super simple, quick, and will delight you because it looks beautiful from both sides.

Special feature: transition of leftover yarns

In the Remember Me shawl, the transitions of the individual yarns are special. A base color (Merino from Knitting for Olive) is knitted continuously. Here you can choose a color that matches the color range of your leftovers. I chose a light shade (powder).

Make sure to change the colors of the leftover yarns one after another to create a particularly beautiful transition.

Here you can simply knit the next color in shortly before the end of one yarn. It’s best to knit about 10 stitches with both colors (that means a total of 4 threads). Then you can remove the old color.

As a little special touch, I left the threads sticking out about 2 cm from the knitted piece, so you can still admire them individually. If you prefer, you can also cut them off close.

The protruding threads especially highlight the different colors. I really like that I can still see them individually like this.

Conclusion

I really enjoy using up my leftover yarns and especially love turning them into such a beautiful shawl!

Freely combine your colors!

The Remember Me shawl looks dreamy and reminds you of all the projects from a year! It’s super easy and quick to knit.

Indulge in memories and feel happy while reducing your stash!
